The day
A day at Sedge
The order stays the same from day to day, so children know what comes next.
- 8:00
Step 1: Arrival
Families come in between 8:00 and 8:30. A guide greets each child at the door, and the child hangs up a coat and chooses a first job.
- 8:30
Step 2: The work cycle
A long stretch of quiet work from the shelf, with a guide moving around the room, showing new work and watching.
- 10:30
Step 3: Circle and snack
A song, a story and the day's plans, then snack at a low table that two children set.
- 11:00
Step 4: Outdoors
The yard, or a walk to the river path or the library, with an adult beside each group.
- 12:00
Step 5: Lunch and the quiet hour
On the school day, children eat the lunch they bring, wash up and settle with books, puzzles or a rest.
- 1:00
Step 6: The afternoon
Another stretch of work for children who stay until 3:00, then a goodbye circle. Extended day is snack, the yard and quiet work until 5:30.
Before the first day
What to bring and wear
A change of clothes
Spare clothes in the backpack, with your child's initials.
Indoor shoes
Soft-soled shoes that stay in the room, so the floors stay clean.
Winter gear
Boots, snow pants, a hat and mittens. We go outside in the snow.
Lunch and water
A lunch for the school day and a water bottle, both in your child's cubby.
Come and see a morning
A tour takes a weekday morning, so you see the day as it runs.
